Dr Martin Oeggerli, also known by his alias Micronaut, has already spent his career working intensively with microbes, pollen and other spectacular microscopic structures. His impressive images, taken under a scanning electron microscope, give us a unique insight into the hidden world of the smallest things. Each image is carefully coloured by hand. No wonder his work has graced the covers of prestigious magazines such as National Geographic, Nature and CELL and has been recognised with numerous international awards, including the Lennart Nilsson Award, International Photography Award, German Prize for Scientific Photography and the prize for the ‘Best Scientific Cover Image’.
When we met Martin Oeggerli, Saleon AG was in the midst of a transformation – from a research and development-orientated company to a professional market player with industrial energy storage systems based on salt technology. Right from the start, it was clear that we wanted to create a visual world that reflected Saleon’s corporate values and presented the central element of our technology, salt, in a new way.
The result is breathtaking images that look as if they come from an alien galaxy. Geometric and organic structures, magnified several tens of thousands of times, reveal the fascinating complexity of salt. We are proud that these images will also play a role in Saleon AG’s corporate communications in the future, providing innovative access to our technology. We are not only targeting specialist circles, but also an interested public in order to visualise the unique advantages of our salt energy storage systems compared to conventional systems.
A particular highlight is the image ‘Salt Lake City’, which shows coloured salt particles in an impressive enlargement. The original format of 1.50m x 1m will decorate our offices in future and can be seen again and again in exhibitions.
We would like to thank Martin Oeggerli for the wonderful collaboration and for creating these fascinating insights into a world that remains invisible to the naked eye.
